Members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria yesterday, during a procession in Kaduna against the Israeli-Hamas war alleged that their peaceful procession was attacked by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

A statement signed by Aliyu Umar, made available to our correspondent yesterday, explained that purpose of the rally was to, “declare our whole hearted support for the oppressed and subjugated people of Palestine who are facing the most Inhuman suppression perpetrated by the illegal state of Zionist Israel”.

According to the statement titled, “ATTACK A BY THE MEN OF POLICE FORCE DURING A RALLY ON SUPPORT OF PALESTINE IN KADUNA” the group said, “Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Y. Zakzaky staged a peaceful rally today, Thursday 16th November, 2023 at about 1115 HRS around the Kaduna State National Union of Journalist (NUJ) Secretariat and the National Human Rights Commission, Kaduna State, which is located less than 400m away from the NUJ Office.

“The purpose of the rally was to declare our whole hearted support for the oppressed and subjugated people of Palestine who are facing the most Inhuman suppression perpetrated by the illegal state of Zionist Israel,” the group said.

According to them, “in recent times, the Zionist regime of Netanyahu has been unleashing mayhem of Genocide, ethnic cleansing of women, children and civilians on the people of Gaza in Palestine. It is our belief to call on all people of conscious to condemn the atrocities by the Zionist Israel regime and to demand for complete ceasefire and the bombardments going on in Gaza.

“While we were standing peacefully to register and handover our release memo of condemnation at the office of the National Human Rights Commission, we suddenly heard the sporadic sound of gunshots and teargas to our dismay in order to disperse the rally. So far, two of our members have been killed and several others injured.

“We view the attack by the men of police force in Kaduna as barbaric in this civilized era. Protests, demonstrations and rallies have been going on in support of the Palestine all over the world-London, America etc. including Tel-Aviv in Israel against the Genocide,” they explained.

They lamented that, “It is only here in Nigeria, Kaduna in particular, that such attack happened. We totally condemn the attack and hold the Nigerian Government responsible for this act of aggression.

“In Allah we trust and to HIM we shall all return to account for our actions and inactions in this world.

“Peace be upon those who follow Guidance,” the statement said.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Kaduna State Command, ASP Mansur said that the group came out with dangerous weapons.

“As you are aware, the group which has already been proscribed by the state government, came out with dangerous weapons, locally made guns, swords, catapults which they used with iron objects.

“One innocent civilian, Sani Aliyu who is 40 years old was killed in the process from their attack on policemen and two of our personal suffered serious injuries they are being treated at the police clinic at the moment.
