President Buhari Commissions Murtala Square, Other Projects In Kaduna

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday congratulated Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai for committing himself towards urban renewal and modelling projects in the state.

Speaking at Murtala Mohammed Square Kaduna, after he commissioned some projects in Kafanchan, President Buhari congratulated Kaduna State Governor for the achievements so far in the state.


“But now we have done what needs to be done culturally, in visiting Kaduna now I can hardly find my way.


“You have committed yourself to changing Kaduna and you have been very successful and people throughout the country are appreciative. You are writing your history in letters in gold. 


In his remarks , Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai said the re-modeled Murtala Muhammed Square   was first built in the 70s and was subsequently handed over to Kaduna State by the Federal Government.

He explained that the re-modeled Mutala Square was done under the leadership  of Kaduna Market Development and Management Company.


” Murtala Mohammed Square has been rebuilt and redeveloped and it is a multi functional facility with five restaurants, small boutique, hotel, sporting facilities like hockey, football, swimming pool, horse racing and polo.”


He said the facility which will be operational  seven days a week, “And  by the grace of God it will be the new city of Kaduna”,  he assured.


At the event, earlier Thursday, the President was also in  Kafanchan, where  he inaugurated road projects and other facilities executed by the state government.


President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Kafanchan where he inaugurated the Emir road, one of the 21 roads reconstructed under the Kaduna Urban Renewal Projects in Kafanchan, Jema’a LGA. 

It would be recalled that, in October 2020, Governor Nasir el-Rufai-led administration flagged off the Kafanchan Urban Renewal Project which included the reconstruction and expansion of 21 roads spanning 26.3km at the costs N12.8bn.

The key projects commissioned so far are,  the re-modeled Murtala Muhammed Square, Infectious Disease Hospital Mando,  the Kawo flyover, which has three grand rotaries, LEA Primary School, Lokoja Road Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area of the state and Leventis Under-pass.
