Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani on Thursday, admonished religious leaders to promote peace, harmony and enhance security in the state.
Senator Uba Sani expressed this, with Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and other senior government officials present at the quarterly meeting of the Kaduna State Committee on Inter-Religious Harmony, which took place at the Umar Musa Yar’Adua Hall, Murtala Square, Kaduna.
The governor thanked the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) for their support to the government and the entire state.
He said, safety and security of their people is one the SUSTAIN Agenda, adding that the security personnel in the state have been giving them the necessary support.
According to him, religious leaders are key.
“The way we preach, the way we communicate, we have better avenues to communicate messages to our followers,” he added.
Senator Uba Sani pointed out that, “when you are elected, you took a oath to be fair to everyone, therefore, we must be fair to everyone.”
He further said, “without peace, we cannot achieve anything, hence politics is over, you have to be fair to everyone.”
Uba noted that, “we are privileged to seating here representing ten million people in Kaduna State, hence we should always preach peace, harmony and togetherness.
“However, we must be fair to everyone, if you are Muslim, you must be fair to Christians and if you are a Christian, you must be fair to Muslims.”
He assured the state that those that voted for him and those that did not, will be carried along.
Governor Uba said, “I don’t see people I am working with as Muslims or Christians who are bad, but we only select people based on their character and sincerity.”
He said they should be very careful as leaders, “we must encourage our leaders and we must correct them in love.
“I was not elected because I am the best leader, I want to remind us that we make mistakes, therefore, we must accept our mistakes and our doors are open for corrections.
“I assure all that everything we are going to do, we will involve our religious leaders, hence it is key for our leaders to succeed.
“I urge you to help us, work together, treat everyone equally,” the governor said.
Imam Sani Isa, gave his admonition of peaceful coexistence to both Muslims and Christians with their neighbours, wherever they find themselves, stressing that they are all brothers.
He said, “you are to say things that are beautiful , both religions have to teach things that will promote peace in the society.”
Col. Nuhu (rtd), said that Nigeria is a blessed nation and Kaduna is blessed.
“If communities are so blessed and we are prayer warriors and if we accept the real problems, then we need to solve it well,” he said.
He pointed out that, “unity is fundamental in our lives, every community should put in place a peaceful community”.
Col. Nuhu said, “we must accept and share belongings, trust and work together as it will create a safer environment.”
He noted that, “for economic development, we have to accept that our communities must collaborate to create opportunities that will make our state to progress.”
He said issues of conflict and poverty can hinder the progress of the state.
He therefore, called on the government to create more collaboration that will bring instant peace in the communities and the state entirely.
