Unlike the uncertainty that was witnessed before the meeting by the National Council of State, business activities  are now booming in Kano and its environs, where both old and new notes remain in circulation across the state.

Our correspondent who was at the ancient City of Kano reports that there was  rejection of old Naira notes denominations, 200, 500 and 1,000  before   Friday’s National Council of State meeting which was held in Abuja, where some traders, filling stations and other business owners rejected the old currency.

Similarly, at Kano main markets of Sabon Gari, Kantin Kwari, Singer, Wambai, Kurmi and Dawanau International Food Market, normal business activities are booming, while those who make big purchases were busy buying commodities of their choice.

Most of the business owners and customers told our correspondent that, “We all came out for normal activities because we heard that the National Council of State met with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) leadership about the issue of Naira redesign and we are certain that things would become sweet despite the scarcity of new notes.”

They called on the National Assembly to make it mandatory for the Apex bank to let the new and old Naira circulate until all the old currency are totally withdrawn from the public and to make the new notes available to ease hardship in the country.
