The Police in Birnin Kebbi Division, Kebbi State at the weekend arrested ten members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria otherwise known as Shi’i tes at Wala Mosque in old city of the state metropolis.
It was gathered that the members were arrested around 2:30 pm Saturday when they were busy preparing premises in front of the Mosque for preaching.
New Nigerian on-line gathered that when other members coming to the scene of the event noticed the arrest of their leaders, they immediately went into hiding to void being arrested by the Police.
An eye witness who does not want his name in the print for fear of being harassed, told our correspondent at Wala Mosque on Sunday that the arrest of the members by the Police could be connected with the recent conduct of their preaching in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi without seeking permission from the authorities, adding that they were allegedly accused of abusing some traditional rulers and President Buhari during their preaching.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Office Birnin Kebbi, our correspondent was told that the DPO was not on seat but saw the ten sect members locked in a cell at the Division.
However our correspondent report that all the ten members were later removed from the Police cell and moved to Illelar Yari Prison in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.
Public Relation Officer of Kebbi Police Command, Aliyu Abubakar when contacted on phone said he was not aware of the development.
