Police Orders Watertight Security In Today’s Bye Elections

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) holds bye elections at Ikono, Etim Ekpo, Ika and Abak local government areas respectively for today, Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has ordered a watertight security in the affected areas.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon on Friday, indicated that 2,310 officers and men have been deployed, besides sister security agencies.

Macdon stated that the Commissioner of Police CP Olateyo Durosinmi has urged electorate to go out and exercise their franchise without fear of manifestation as the Command and Sister Agencies will ensure that elections are conducted in the  affected areas in a secure and crisis free manner

He also stated that the Commissioner has further directed security agencies involved in the exercise to be professional in the course of the exercise. 

The CP commended the people of the state for their commitment towards effective security and orderliness in the state.

Recall during the March 18 governorship and State Houses elections, the exercise in some wards in the affected areas were regarded as inconclusive due to violence that greeted the respective areas.
