UKaid through Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL), a Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), project in Nigeria in partnership with Kaduna State Maternal and Newborn Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM), on Tuesday commenced a two-day reflection meeting with all health related accountability mechanisms in the state.
The purpose of the meeting according to PERL-EC State lead, Abel Adejor is to discuss the key finds of the spot checks in the health sector and the challenges affecting service delivery in the sector.
He said the meeting became more important in view of the upcoming Midterm review of Primary Health Care (PHC) MoU on Routine Immunization (RI) because the feedback from KADMAM is what they are going to use.
The MoU was signed between the Kaduna State Government, Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, the UKaid through Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria.
“We want all the accountability mechanisms around health to be involved in tracking the utilization the Basic Healthcare Care Provision Fund so far, over 239 PHCs have accessed the fund, we would like yo know the level of utilization, were the funds used or not, were they able to open their account, what are the challenges they are facing”. He added.
Adejor, noted that the State government is doing a lot in the healthcare sector but that there is need to be positive as to what else should be in the sector to improve service delivery.
The meeting is also met to share the strategies for tracking the 2021 approved Health sector budget and observations to influence the 2022 budget process to State House of Assembly.
Facilitate experience sharing on the key findings on tracked utilization of BHCPF in PHCs across the state, generate next steps and strategies for continues tracking to present advocacy ASK to government and to ascertain the disbursement and utilization of BHCPF implementation status and Contributory Health uptake.
Participants at the meeting include; members of KADMAM, Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), Kaduna Social Protection Accountability Coalition (KADSPAC), Ward Development Committees (WDCs), Traditional Rulers etc.
