Oyo Judiciary Workers Commence Sit-At-Home Over July Salary Delay

Judicial workers in Oyo State under the auspices of  Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on Tuesday, commenced sit at home action to protest delay in the payment of their July salary.

Oyo State JUSUN Public Relations Officer, Mr Obafunso Okulaja disclosed that the sit at home followed the resolution at the union’s congress on Friday.

He pointed out that as at Mr Okulaja stressed that JUSUN  members in Oyo state have not received July salary while other government agencies in the state were paid on July 25.

“Our members do not have money to come to work so we directed them to sit-at-home.JUSUN is yet to receive July salary in the state and this delay in salary payment has been like this since December, 2021″, he said

Mr Okulaja added, ” we call on the state government to put us on the priority list as the third arm of the government. If the executive and legislative arms are given priority, the judiciary should also be given same.”

According to Okulaja, ” the sit-at-home will continue until we receive our July salary”.

As a result of  the sit at home action, the gates leading to the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court and State High Court, Ringroad as well as some offices in the court  were locked .

Also, human and vehicular movements into the court premises were prevented as the gates remained locked  till the closing time

A worker who spoke on condition of anonymity, decried the delay in salary payment.

”We urge the government to urgently do something about it,” he said.

The gates to the customary court of appeal, was also under lock and key.
