Oyo Enrolls 60% Of Target Residents In Basic Healthcare Scheme

The Executive Secretary of Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr. Sola Akande on Tuesday, hinted that the state has enrolled 60 per cent of its target residents in Basic Healthcare Scheme

Dr. Akande who dropped this hint said so far, about 22,018 persons have been enrolled into the scheme of the initially aimed at capturing 37,500 indigenes that include the aged, children (under five), physically challenged and pregnant women across the 33 local government areas.

He stressed that  the agency has reviewed upwards the number of enrollees for BHCPF, to accommodate more residents of the state.

” The Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) is financed through 1% of Federal Government consolidated revenue given to states that have fulfilled certain laid down guidelines”, he said.

Dr. Akande added, ” the Basic Health Care Provision Fund was initially aimed at capturing 37,500 indigenes that include the aged, children (under five), physically challenged and pregnant women across the 33 local government areas.

According to him, ” the agency is currently enrolling more lives, and  that the reviewed figure now stands at 65,000 lives”, adding, ” this is part of the Oyo State Government, under Engr. Seyi Makinde’s commitment to deliver on universal health care (UHC) services through the provision of a Basic Minimum Package of Health Services (BMPHS) and emergency medical treatment.

Assuring successful enrollees that they can access care without paying out-of-pocket through the ID card issued to them by the agency, he said, ” the  BHCPF primary objective is to help achieve Universal Health coverage and enhance access to primary health care services for Oyo state residents especially the poor and the vulnerable, women, children under five, and children in orphanages”.
