A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Oyo State, Engineer Femi Babalola has hinted that the 2023 gubernatorial election in Oyo State, would go beyond party politics.
Engineer Babalola who dropped this hint in Ibadan while featuring on life radio programme on Yes 101.7Fm, said that this time around, competence, capability, and local knowledge which goes with the experience are to be taken into consideration on the election.
He emphasized that, “there is the need to restructure Oyo State mainly for our children, in order to avoid future negligence by doing away with sentiments
“A lot of issues would have to come into consideration in the next gubernatorial election, which would go beyond party politics. In the past years, we wish to go beyond rhetorics. It Is not only about party politics but as far as the state is concerned. Oyo State was well arranged before, but now it is no longer good”, he said.
Engineer Babalola added, ” we are here to reshape things back in order. Some people are just after political appointments and once it fails, you can no longer see them in the state”.
” We need people with good backgrounds to govern the state. Oyo State has made a lot of terrible mistakes using sentiments to elect leaders . We must restructure Oyo state mainly for our children, in order to avoid future negligence”.
The PDP leader however berated Gov Seyi Makinde for what he called lacking sustainable development in Oyo State, saying, looking at critical issues that have to do with our political terrain and atmosphere currently in Oyo State such as competence, capability, and local knowledge which goes with the experience of the state, Gov Makinde has none.
” Like I have said earlier, this is beyond party politics, are we happy with the present situation in Oyo State? Look at the education, Oyo State is a bit laid back, because the schools could not have access to the grants. The principals were running into debts so as to ensure the comfortability for their students. It was quite unfortunate, Oyo state performed woefully in the last concluded west Africa examination council. And the past aged rulers of Oyo state has done wonders to the growth of the state”
Engineer Babalola stressed, ” in this state, we had people who were Commissioner of police, Major Generals, and IG. So they are capable to know what to do in terms of insecurity. Oyo state is encountering more difficulties in health sector.”
” The government invested so much on agriculture, farming is very straight forward. No issues attached to farming system. You could claim to be hardworking, but the end would justify the means. As we can witness the inflation of food prices every year, government claims in spending money on farm settlement, let us take a view at Awolowo’s reign in Nigeria… He has Agricultural policy, all those products were the results of Awolowo’s farm policy.
