Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi on Monday, asked gladiators in the July 16 guber  election in the state to make their campaign  issue based.
Omooba Babayemi in a statement by his Director of Media, Mr Kayode Oladeji, made available to journalists, said there is the need for contenders and stakeholders to steer clear of things that could heat up the polity.
This according to the PDP governorship hopeful,  became necessary to prevent threatening the peace of the state, which could further heighten its security tension.
“Electioneering campaign should be an avenue for us to tell our people what we want to do better and differently too to ensure all-round developments.We should avoid turning the platform into a theatre of war where personalities are dragged and attacked”, he said
The PDP guber hopeful added, ” these are the things that trigger violence and most times, ending sadly with wanton destructions of lives and property.This ugly path we can avoid and we should avoid if truly our aim is to serve” .
Omooba Babayemi tasked all the political parties participating in the July 16 election, to be prepared to convince the people of the state about their preparedness to govern through their programmes and agenda.
He stressed further that the election should be devoid of brickbats, mudslinging and character assassination that could create unnecessary and avoidable tension;
According to him, the state needs total support for it to be rescued from the hands of its current handlers, advising that no effort should be spared to achieve this.
” Our state, Osun, is in dire need of a better hand to steer its ship to a successful berth. July 16,which is some months away,will soon provide that ample opportunity for the people to elect me as the new governor as being popularly yearned for”
He assured that through him, the PDP would give the state and its people,the best when elected through the entrenchment of enduring policies and programmes.
“With the help of God and the valued support of our people,I am determined to set Osun on the path of a new dawn that will even surpass the projections of our founding fathers.This, I am unwaveringly committed to achieving by His grace.”
Reiterating  the need to eschew violence before, during and after the election, Omooba Babayemi  expressed  optimism that he would coast home to victory at the July 16 polls urging youth not to allow themselves to be used for disruptive purposes.
