Open Letter to PBAT

Your Excellency,

Be a Leader,

Be a statesman,

And act as a statesman

Leadership is hard. It means making hard decisions and doing hard things. And leading a country like Nigeria is even harder and you can mess things up. You can pain same people and you can pain yourself. Listen to people and there are benefits in doing so.

Do not regard criticisms as evil or as personal attacks  on you. In USA and western world we copy they value ,recognize and appreciate public opinions as a big asset that help them to serve the people and their country.

This brings me to the many allegations and revelations about how the Buhari’s government and key players of that government looted and bankrupted Nigeria.  You too have spoken and your NSA has spoken confirming that these allegations are true , valid and credible.

There are public  concerns,   grievances and fury on the economic vandalisation carried out during  the period and  people are calling for you to institute a full blown probe of the 8years rule of that administration. These calls are not new and are justified.

The Commission of Inquiry should include dereliction of duties, the Shia killings, the over 100000 deaths of innocent people and many human right violations .

Mr. President, the evidences of corruption and massive stealing are mounting, it is not fair and right to ignore them. They are too sensitive to be ignored and doing nothing is not an option.

In 1979 Alh. Shehu Shagari, immediately after he resumed work, was faced with similar complaint and challenge – A missing 2.4 Billion Naira from the NNPC. Shagari responded to public concerns and set-up a commission of inquiry.

Shagari had to speak to the Nation. You too should do the same by setting -up a probe commission to look into all the allegations. Nobody is above the country and its people.

Nigerians deserve respect and need answers from those officials who led Nigeria in the situation it  finds itself now. Nigerians have endured a lot of pains and disrespect from officials hired to work for them.

Mismanagement of public funds or converting public funds as personal and using public funds for personal benefits is totally unacceptable and must not be allowed to become the standard practice by elected representatives.

I doubt very much if the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allows  the president to do whatever he likes.

Mr. President just last week the British Government set up Inquiry on mishandling COVID 19 by the former prime minister and this has been broadcast live  and interestingly the inquiry was set up by the party of the former prime minister. Boris Johnson has to fight or his political survival.

Many former presidents like Trump, the French president and even the present Israel prime minister so why cant Buhari face the same thing? He put the lives of over 200 million people in peril.

I hope this letter meets you well and you would act on it. This is a call to national duty, fight against corruption and promotion of good governance in Nigeria.

Yours Faithfully

Garba  Kaita  Katsina,

a lover of  Nigeria and Nigerians
