A policeman attached to Isolo Police Station has been feared dead during a clash with commercial motorcycle operators in Lagos.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station is also reportedly sustained high degree of injury during the clash that occurred on Wednesday.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the incident occurred when the Okada operators tried to prevent the police operatives from arresting them for flouting traffic laws.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson confirmed the incident on his Twitter handle.
His words, ” While enforcing the existing ban on use of motorcycles in parts of Lagos State, Police Officers of Isolo Division came under attack from motorcycle riders at Cele bus stop, resulting in the death of one Inspector & serious injury to the Divisional Police Officer.
” Two suspects have been arrested while forty-one motorcycles were impounded. The Lagos State Police Command will not be deterred from carrying out its mandate of enforcing duly established laws.
” Citizens are urged to remain calm law abiding, as riders and passengers alike arrested on prohibited routes will face the law.
” Above all, any form of attack on police officers will no longer be tolerated”.
