Oil Theft: Group Tells Buhari to set up Independent Investigation Committee

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency, set up a high powered independent investigation committee that will immediately investigate the complexity of the NNPC Ltd and its successive GMDs, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and her Successive Ministers likewise the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and its successive CG, including the Odua Peoples Congress whom have once been given pipeline monitoring contract from 1999 till date. 

The country has of recent, being battling with the activities of oil thieves and pipeline vandals that hy crippled its oil into in the country.

Isah Abubakar, National President, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday and made available to New Nigerian, said, “The President should act as a matter of urgency, set up a high powered independent investigation committee that will immediately investigate the complexity of the NNPC LIMITED and her successive GMDs, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and her Successive Ministers likewise the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence corps NSCDC and her Successive CG including the Odua People Congress whom have once been given pipeline monitoring contract from 1999 till date.” 

The group regretted that it is very sad and unfortunate that oil theft continues in a country where there is a functional government mechanism without dictation by agencies that are fully responsible for it protection, alleging that it look so conspiring by the major actor’s of related agencies appears more like conspiracy by the concern agencies to sabotage the economic interest of the nation through the organised crude oil theft.

The group suggested that the GMD NNPC LIMITED and the past GMDS should be arrested, investigated and prosecuted including the past and present Ministers of petroleum resources, multinationals companies that are part of the criminal activity should as well be sanctioned.

The youth opined, “Any individuals or cooperate entity culpable in this unpatriotic act should be prosecuted irrespective of class or connection, as anything short of that will be resisted by the Northern Youth.”

The statement called on the National Assembly to also as a matter of urgency, set up an investigatory committee that would get to the root of crude oil theft in Nigeria with a view of arresting the situation.

In order to find lasting solution, the youth noted, “The Presidency most call back all the GOC of 6 division and GOC of Operations Delta Save from the time of establishment to date to answer questions as regard to crude oil theft in Nigeria.”

The statement explained that the youths of Northern extraction and other youths leaders of ethnic Nationality shall work together to see that this demands are met.

It applauded the commitment of Tompolo and his team for their patriotic character to save the nation from total collapse and economic sabotage.

The group urged Nigeria youths to get prepared for a call to action if the demands are not met by the government within the shortest time.
