Team Kaduna volleyball teams at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG), fought hard to claim one gold and two silver medals, as the events ended yesterday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The gold medal came from the girls beach volleyball event, while the silver medals were won by the male and female indoor volleyball teams, after both losing out in the finals decided yesterday.
The impressive run of Team Kaduna’s female indoor volleyball team was cut short by hosts Delta in a pulsating final.
The Kadunà Girls had in the second semifinals played a day earlier, trounced Anambra 3-0 (26-24,25-9,25-16) to book a final berth were they succumbed to Delta
In the boys Indoor Volleyball semifinal, Team Kaduna beat their Oyo State counterparts 3-0 ( 25-16,25-16, 25-18 ) on Wednesday, but lost to Anambra in the final yesterday.
In the earlier stages, Team Kaduna boys beat same Anambra 2-1 (25-12, 22-25, 15-12) at Ogwashe- Uku Stadium.
In their second match, Team Kaduna beat Akwa Ibom 2-0 (25-16,25-15).
The girls on their part, beat FCT 2- 1 (22-24, 21-7, 15-5) in their first match, but fell to Delta 0-2 (21- 10, 21- 17) in their second match.
When interviews after the final, Kaduna girls said the Delta girls had height advantage over them.
