The senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for Nasarawa West in the last National Assembly election, Dr Wakili Kabir-Muhammad, has urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to intervene in the lingering crisis in the State House of Assembly.
He made the call while addressing newsmen on issues of concern in the House.
He recalled that the leadership crisis rocking the state assembly took another dimension with the emergence of two factions, each with their separate speaker – Ibrahim Balarabe and Daniel Ogazi.
In addition to this, 13 factional members during plenary, passed a resolution suspending 10 members of the other faction.
Kabir-Muhammad expressed worries over the crisis, saying that it was undemocratic for the House of Assembly to have two factional speakers.
“Members of the state house of assembly were elected but Nasarawa State is the only state that its legislators cannot sit and legislate.
“This is quite unfortunate. We are calling on the government of the state to hasten effort to do something possible to salvage the crisis in the interest of the people of the state.
“The government should quickly address the issue and give legislators the freehand to do their legislative duties”, he said.
The former Senatorial Candidate further decried the payment of June salaries to members of the Balarabe faction while neglecting Ogazi’s faction, saying that receipt of salaries was the fundamental right of all members who were elected into the house.
“They have been duly elected as members of the house of assembly. It is their entitlement and legitimate right to be paid their salaries.
“Why would the government pay a faction and leave out the other, that is unconstitutional,” he said.
He called on stakeholders in the state to put hands on deck to bring about the needed development in the state.
Meanwhile, the Ogah Ogazi-led majority faction of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) has denied reaching any agreement with Governor Abdullahi Sule as being speculated on Social Media.
According to the group, the meeting with the Governor and his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe in Abuja on Sunday, July 9 ended in deadlock.
They however, revealed that Governor Sule planned to reach out to the other faction led by Ibrahim Abdullahi Balarabe for a meeting of the 24 Members aimed at finding solution to the crisis in the interest of the State.
The general public are therefore, urged to disregard the news being peddled on Social Media that they’ve compromised and agreed to work with the Balarabe-led minority and illegal faction.
Governor Sule had few days ago, reached out to them for a meeting as part of efforts to find amicable resolution to the leadership crisis in the State Assembly.
