NITT/ICPC Sets Up Anti-Corruption Unit

In its efforts to fight corruption  the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria has set up of the Anti-corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit (ACTU)

Inaugurating the committee at the Institute in Zaria  the Acting Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Barr. Ekpo Una Owo Nta commended the management  of the Institute for its commitment in the  fight against corruption.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Institute’s Assistant Director, Public Relations, Mr Paul Ali Msheliza
said the acting Chairman represented by the North-West zonal Commissioner, Mr. Olusegun Adigun, Barr. Ekpo Nta regretted that “much damage has been done to the corporate cultures of public service”; he however, affirmed that “we are yet to receive any petition against NITT”.

“According to him, it was against the back drop of the rot in public service and private life that the directive was given to all MDAs to establish ACTU which he described as “a implementation mechanism for corruption prevention mandate of the ICPC”.

The ICPC zonal Commissioner congratulated NITT ACTU members for being found worthy to serve in such a noble unit because “due diligence” revealed that “none of them has any criminal record.

He admonished NITT ACTU members to be circumspect in all their undertakings and lead by example.

“Barr. Nta enjoined Nigerians to join the crusade of fighting corruption so as to rid the society of corruption.

The Ag Chairman urged NITT ACTU to display high level of professional integrity and accountability as well as take lawful steps to curb corrupt practices and mobilize others to join the crusade against corruption.

In remarks the Director General and Chief Executive of NITT, Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf said NITT Management is not only transparent, but also consciously strives to stay above board in its dealings.

He said the inauguration of the anti-corruption and transparency committee was coming at a time when the Institute and himself were inducted into Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation Hall of fame and the Registrar receiving an award of Ethical Good conduct; all by an anti-corruption NGO, Centre for Ethic and Self Value Orientation (CESVO).

Dr Yusuf who was represented by the Registrar of the Institute, Malam Sule Bello,  renewed the commitment of the Institute in fighting corruption in all its ramifications.

He expressed strong confidence in the Mr. M.M. Mainasara led ACTU, the DG/CE enjoined the members to be objective, fair, and transparent in their noble task.

He pledged Management’s unflinching support, and wished them well.

In his respond the NITT ACTU Chairman, Mr. M.M. Mainasara, thanked both NITT and ICPC for the confidence reposed in them and promised to make them proud.  He noted that President Buhari aptly captured the appalling Nigerian situation when he read that if Nigeria does not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.

He therefore pledged that the unit would do everything within its mandate to kill corruption.
