The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria inter Departmental Football Competition tagged, “DG/CE’s Cup” has began.
The maiden football competition was organised by the sports committee of the institute.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director General/Chief Executive, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah represented by Engr. Elkaka Ngbole stressed the need for physical exercise.
“We need to exercise our body not only for physical and mental fitness, but also for optimal productivity”, he said.
The DG urged the sports committee to consider expanding the competition to other sporting activities for more inclusiveness.
He also implored the players to play safe as the competition was a friendly one.
In his remarks, the Sports Committee Chairman and Director, Transport School, Dr. Ibrahim Baba Mundi, thanked the DG/CE for upgrading the Institute’s sports centre.
He reiterated the importance of physical exercise. Dr. Mundi stated that “the essence of the competition is to reinvigorate the spirit of sportsmanship, which will also enhance productivity.”
He also enjoined the players to be mindful of the friendly nature of the competition by playing safe.
Transport School had qualified for the next round after beating Strategic Units 5–3 on penalty shootout.
