The Controller General of Corrections, CGC Haliru Nababa has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Corrections, CSC. Abubakar Danlami Umar as the new National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCoS.
Umar took over from Francis Enabore, a Controller of Corrections who had served in that capacity for seven years and has gracefully retired from service.
Until his appointment, the new spokesman was Staff Officer 2 at the National Public Relations Office.
He joined the then Nigerian Prisons Service precisely on November 19th, 1990 and has had a fruitful career working across several formations.
He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, MBA Human Resources, from Ladoke Akintola University of science and Technology.
Before his deployment to the National Headquarters, he was the PRO Correctional Service Staff College, Kaduna, and had previously served as Deputy Public Relations Officer and Public Relations Officer respectively in Kogi State Command.
The sojourn of the Chief Superintendent of Correction, CSC in Public Relations, PR unit started in the year 2004 as a young officer in Kogi State Command.
However, through hard work and diligence, he rose to the position of the PRO in Kogi Command where his tenure brought a lot of innovations and interventions to the service via his Inter and Intra Personal Relations.
A.D. Umar was transferred to the Correctional Service Staff College, Kaduna as PRO in 2017 and his major achievements include among others, the installation of solar powered lights to illuminate the College by the Kaduna State Government, as well as three Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) by Fidelity Bank to ease financial transactions for both staff and students on training.
Other innovative ideas of the PRO included: partnership with Nigerian Breweries Plc, 7UP bottling Company and Hero Beer Company with issuance of big refrigerators to the College Officers mess for sales of their products.
In view of the foregoing, it’s no longer news that his appointment is not unconnected with his track records and achievements.
Having carved a niche for himself, the name CSC. Umar will continue to resonate as a great leader, consummate administrator, a detribalised individual, and personality people can trust especially in the area of security, information and intelligence among others.
He is known to be a disciplined, result oriented and media friendly personality who always combines hard work with due diligence in executing duties assigned to him.
Therefore, as a unifier who has always believed in the spirit of togetherness, and since “brevity is the soul of wit” as postulated by Williams Shakespeare in his novel Hamlet, CSC Umar is considered by many, a man with natural intelligence and endowed with the talent to make the Nigeria Correctional Service great by turning around the entire Correctional Facility via effective Reformation which is considered key in the Country’s Security architecture for growth and development.
