*Says Sports University’s aim is to make Nigerian athletes rule the world of sports

Acting Director, High Performance Center, Sports University of Nigeria, (SUN), Dr Bob Olukoya on Tuesday said Nigerian athletes have everything needed to make the country top sport nation if given the necessary support .
Dr Olukoya made this known in Ibadan at the Students/Athletes trial organized by the founder of Sports University of Nigeria, Delta State, Senator Ned Nwoko for the South West region, held at Ilaji Hotels and Resorts
He stressed that as a result of this, the vision of the 2023 Scholarship Students /Athletes Trials is to make Nigerian athletes rule the world of sports in the nearest future.
Dr Olukoya maintained that many benefits such as self development, opportunity to travel round the world, acquisition of vocational skills, employment opportunities and opportunity to participate in competitions such as the NUGA game and international meets are associated with the scholarship apart from studying at the University
The athletes Assessor for the project Mr Gboyega Makinde while speaking disclosed that the programme was meant for selection of athletes for trials for scholarships being offered by the Sports University of Nigeria.
Emphasizing that successful athletes selected from the South West zone will be among the 100 athletes to be selected across the geo political zones of Nigeria, Mr Makinde tasked the athletes to perform well during the trials in other to be among the successful athletes for the scholarship program.
” The founder of the University Senator Ned Nwaoko has established the university to give support to the selected athletes in a bid to give the beneficiaries a future in the sport education in the Sport University in a bid to develop sports talents in Nigeria”, he said.
Senator Ned Nwoko ,Chancellor of the University is awarding scholarship to one hundred students/athletes to the tune of 2.5million naira across Nigeria
A former Olympian and national coach who also doubles as head-coach , Taekwondo , University of Ibadan, Osita John Egwim in his remarks said the support given by the founder of SUN is what they have been soliciting for ,adding that with the support given, the Nigerian sports will be ruling the world of sport in a very short time.
One of the athletes who plays Basketball, Joshua Eritobor on his part lauded the organiser for the opportunity given , he said scholarships of such will give opportunity for Nigerian youths to move farther in what they do .
Eritobor stressed that scholarship of such will give beneficiaries to learn and play the sport they love to do while he stated that he prays he is among the successful selected athletes for the scholarship.
Another athlete who plays Soft Ball, Rokibat AbdulAfeez said the scholarship if given to her will give her the opportunity to learn more about the sport adding that she would love to be among the successful selected athletes just as she described the trial as top notched free of sentiments.
