A group known as Niger Delta Conscience Coalition (NDCC) has described the move to make Senator Godswill Akpabio the President of the 10th Senate as a step on a right direction for a purposeful leadership.

At a press conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital on Thursday, the NDCC President, Mr. Aniefiok Fabian said that the Niger Delta region deserved to produce the Senate President, adding that Senator Godswill Akpabio was best fit for the number one seat in the red chambers.

In the text of the press conference which was signed also by the Coalition Secretary, Mr. John Adangu Dagogo, the President described Senator Akpabio as a trusted and tested politician who has paid his dues of bridge-building National Sustainability.

“The Niger Delta Conscience, seizes this opportunity to profusely commend the newly elected Senate Members and the APC for in having already zoned the Senate Presidency to the South-South Region, they have made imperative for this our solicitation totally justiciable having in like manner found in the Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio a person fit, capable, prim and proper to pilot her affairs and deliver the much needed robust. cohesive and transformative leadership as they all set out to commence the sessions of the 10 Senate.

“As a group that totally trust in a conciliatory, equitable and cohesive Nigerian State, we note that the in-coming Senate could not have done better, setting the ball rolling in their current show of resolve to rally around a trusted, tested and capable hand by settling for man who has paid the necessary dues of bridge-building National Sustainability via a Godswill Obot Akpabio’s Presidency.

“Therefore, this group, the Niger Delta Conscience Coalition is not in any way bemused by the recent activities of some paid agents of destabilization across the country in general and their political godfathers both in the South-South geopolitical region and Akwa Ibom State in particular to suggest that, the Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio could be aiming for anything less than the Senate Presidency of this country, talkless of their much touted Ministerial Appointment, a position he held some years back.

“As permissible as it is for any person or group in their chicken heartedness to exhibit fear and trepidation in a contest such as parading a giant of the pedigree of a one-time governor, ex-Senator and former Minister in the person of the Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, it is however something else altogether to seek in anyone’s state of confusion to mislead, deceive and hoodwink his followers, admirers and indeed the nation at large as to the direction or choice of a principal political player at this time in the country’s political trajectory”. The NDCC President concluded.

Recall that Senator, who emerged winner of the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) during February 25, 2023 exercise, was the Senate Minority Leader during the 8th Senate after serving as the governor of Akwa Ibom state for two terms.

He is also the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Ministry and one of the Presidential aspirants in 2023 general elections but who stepped down for Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the eve the APC presidential primaries.
