*Says process still ongoing

Oyo State Government  yesterday, insisted that Governor Seyi Makinde will not approve any candidate as the new Alaafin of Oyo until real due process is followed in the ongoing selection process.

The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun said this during a telephone chat with the New Nigerian in Ibadan disclosed that the selection process is still in progress.

Dr. Olatubosun said this became imperative because the state government would want any legal battle immediately after a new Alaafin has been approved and installed by the state government.

The commissioner maintained that the expected due processes to be followed in the selection are clearly stated in the government gazette on the selection of a new Alaafin of Oyo.

According to the commissioner, as far as the Oyo State Government is concerned, the necessary due process should be followed from the beginning of the selection to the end, saying, ” once due process is followed, Oga is ready to approve”.

“Due process must be followed; until now, no name has been approved. The state governor, Seyi Makinde, has asked that they should go back and follow due process. Once that is done, the public will be briefed appropriately.”

New Nigerian recalls that there was  a purported claim of the emergence of an Alaafin-elect in the person of Lukman Gbadegesin as the Alaafin-elect barely one year after the death of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.

The late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi joined his ancestors on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the age of 83 after ruling for more than 51 years as the Alaafin of Oyo.
