Nestle’s Target Is To Empower 10m Youth By 2030 – MD

The management of Nestle Nigeria PLC has said that the company’s Technical Training Centre is an initiative which aims to help 10 million young people globally to access economic opportunities by year 2030.
Managing Director of Nestle Nigeria PLC, Mr. Wassim Elhusseini, said this on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Nestle’s Technical Training programme.
“The Technical Training Centre is one of the initiatives of Nestle Needs Youth, the global flagship programme which aims to help 10 million young people worldwide access economic opportunities by 2030,” Elhusseini explained.  “At Nestle, we believe that young people have a key role to play in building thriving, resilient communities, so we remain passionate about helping them build the capabilities and skills necessary to find fulfilling jobs and create their own business. This is what we are implementing through the technical training programme in collaboration with the Consulate of Switzerland in Nigeria.”
The Nestle chief pointed out that 50 per cent of participants in the programme are females, and that they completed the course successfully.
In a news release titled: “Nestle Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Her Technical Training Programme,” the company disclosed that over 140 students have benefitted from the programme since its inception with over 90 per cent of them directly employed by Nestle Nigeria.
“The ceremony coincided with the graduation of the 5th batch of trainees from the Agbara Center,” the news release dated 4th October 2021 noted.
Nestle stated that the technical training programme was inaugurated in year 2011 with the aim of bridging technical skills gap by equipping youth with the required expertise to support industrialization.
It clarified that the 18-month intensive vocational training “culminated in the prestigious London City and Guilds technical certification.
The courses of the technical training programme comprised machining, mechanical fitting operations, electrical operations, instrumentation operations and automation.
Nestle disclosed that the top five graduates of each batch undergo a further three-month internship programme at a Nestle factory in Switzerland, sponsored by the Swiss government.
