Movement for National Reformation (MNR) has congratulated   President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and  Vice President Kashim Shettima for their victory  at the 2023  presidential election and  subsequent swearing  into office as President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A statement issued and signed  on Wednesday,  made available to journalists in Maiduguri by HRH, Chief Samuel Adai Onimisi,  the

National Vice Chairman of the

Movement for National Reformation (MNR), also congratulated the people of Nigeria for sustaining the country’s hard-earned democracy.

It further stated that, “President  Bola Ahmed  Tinubu is a formidable chip of the old blocks of our founding nationalists who fought for Nigeria’s independence.

“The Movement considers the emergence of Tinubu’s Presidency as a historic attainment of the progressive block in Nigeria whom power eluded at the controlling height after leading a successful independence struggle.

“We confidently trust in the track-records of the President and his Vice, mostly in their capability to demonstrate good governance at a larger scale and therefore urge Nigerians to cooperate with the government to deepen our democracy and build a prosperous Nigeria that shall be the pride of all.

” It is therefore, a significant opportunity for the progressives in Nigeria to commit to total support of the Presidency of this staunch progressive democrat as he deploys his vision to lift the country out of economic stagnation and decay, and the injustices that have blighted the prospect for inter ethnic peace in the country.

“For the MNR, the Tinubu-led federal government is potentially a positive departure considering the President’s proven competence, and capacity to address the needs and wellbeing of the country’s diverse nationalities, coupled with his international appeal to attract favourable bilateral relationships.

“It is therefore, compelling on the Movement to lend maximum support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government in every way and everywhere as he sets out to elevate Nigeria to enviable height in the emerging African and  global politics.

“The MNR calls on President Tinubu to urgently and courageously engage Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities in order to find a lasting solution to this intractable and destabilising element in Nigeria’s search for the path to nationhood and unhindered national development.

“It is with confident anticipation that the MNR look forward to the Tinubu Presidency in the knowledge that this President has capacity and courage to set the tone for the emergence of a new Nigeria built on the foundation of ethnic nationalities justice and equity,” the statement said.

It added that, “He  remained a rugged member and a critical stakeholder in the robust roles of the NADECO struggle while sharing close affinity with its founder, Chief Anthony E. Enahoro and other co-founders of MNR and the Pro-National Conference Organizations (PRONACO).

“It was the foremost advocate for the return of the country to true federalism through Restructuring and also served as the parent body of the Pro-National Conference Organizations (PRONACO) which produced the Proposed Power-Sharing Constitution in which the interests of ethnic nationalities in Nigeria were adequately addressed in the context of true federalism.

“MNR was a principal partner in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) struggle which fought against the continued stay of the military in power.”
