 *Targets 70 per cent registered voters’ participation

Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Chairman, Chief Isiaka Olagunju, (SAN) has said no fewer than 18 registered political parties are interested in participating in the April 2024 local government elections in the state.

Featuring on a live radio programme in Ibadan on Sunday, the OYSIEC Chairman declared that the commission is targeting achieving 70 per cent registered voters’ participation in the next local government councils’ election.

According to Chief Olagunju (SAN), with the preparedness of the 18  political parties in the election, OYSIEC on its part is ready  to conduct the election come April next year.

“18 registered political parties in the State have shown interest in participating in the forthcoming election.We did our best during the local government council elections conducted in 2021; election is a process and there is room for improvement”, he said.

The OYSIEC Chairman added, “Things are improving; recently, the commission observed primaries of some political parties, this was different from the past; the process went peacefully and successfully”

Chief Olagunju maintained that OYSIEC is targeting towards  achieving 70 per cent registered voters’ participation in the next Local Government Councils’ Election.

The OYSIEC Chairman lauded political parties in the state for handling their primaries peacefully, adding, “This is the spirit I want all the political parties and electorates to take to the election so that the election can be peaceful and credible”.
