The Labour Party (LP), has condemned in strong terms, the continuous killings of its members in parts of the country.
Addressing newsmen on Monday in Kaduna, the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim Mai Rakumi, lamented the continuous killing of its members particularly in Kaduna State and called on the ruling party to rise to the occasion and save the lives of innocent Nigerians.
He said, “The spate of the killings of our members is worrisome, l call on the federal and Kaduna State governments to take proactive measures towards ensuring the protection of our members and Nigerians in general.”
He added, “Our great party has noticed with dismay in recent times, the spate of killing of our party supporters in Kaduna State. Particularly in Southern Kaduna, which is one of our strong holds and the constituency of our gubernatorial candidate Honourable Jonathan Asake, is becoming a source of concern.”
The party’s National Secretary called on Kaduna State Government and the security agents to bring an end to what it described as “this heinous act” , saying there is the need to rise to the occasion in order to ensure sanity in the society.
“Just last week, our great party lost eight members in Kaura Local Government and Zangon Kataf Local Government Area respectively. These series of killings within a short time is highly condemnable and insensitive, especially in this festive period,” he noted.
Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim Mai Rakumi explained that the party strongly condemns the killings, stressing that it cannot continue folding its arms, seeing their members killed on daily basis, while calling on the Kaduna State Government to do all it takes to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to book.
He also called on the Kaduna State Government to as a matter of urgency, put all the mechanisms in motion, apprehend and prosecute whoever has hands in the criminality and called on the state government to be proactive in the protection of lives and property of the citizens.
“The killing of the amiable women leader of Labour Party in Kaduna State, Mrs Victoria Chintex is still fresh in our minds and we will follow up with her gruesome murder till Kaduna State Government apprehends the culprits,” he assured.
He opined that the Labour Party views all the killings in their major strongholds in Kaduna State and some parts of the country as a calculated attempt to demoralize their supporters in next year’s elections in the country.
He explained, “I want to assure the good people of Kaduna State that as the Labour Party waxes stronger on daily basis, many members of other political parties are dumping their party for the Labour Party because it is the only party that can take Nigeria to greater heights.”
The party’s National Secretary called on all party members and supporters to remain calm and law abiding, assuring that the national body of the party is following all cases of killings in Kaduna State and other part of the country till justice is not only done, but seen to be done.
