Kogi State Executive Council has approved the proposed third Kogi state varsity that requires about fifteen billion Naira for a start at the ancient town of Kabba.
The approval on Monday, was one of the bills contained in the memo and other matters connected 2023, directing the state Attorney General to transmit same to the legislative arm of government for consideration and passage into law.
The state Education Commissioner, Hon. Wemi Jones who briefed the press shortly after exco meeting, stated that a University Law is one of the pre-requisites for the National University Commission (NUC) to recognise and approve any established university in Nigeria.
The confident commissioner hinted that the state government is working assiduously towards the actualization of the noble goal within the shortest possible time.
He expressed hope that between now and then, the National University (NUC)’ would have given approval for the commencement of the ivory tower in the ancient Kabba town.
He charged the recently inaugurated implementation committee chaired by Professor of English Language, Prof. Olu Obafemi to work alongside other stakeholders to speed up the actualization process.
The commissioner who used the medium to again clarify on the rumour over the conversion of the College of Education Technical, Kabba or about the location of the university, noted that the news was false and an unauthenticated information which was largely a figment of imagination some individuals.
He however, pointed out that the committee after several considerations, concluded that it was more expedient to start the Kogi State University, Kabba at the current site of the College of Education Technical, Kabba.
However, he explained that the College of Education Kabba will be relocated, adding that the government is considering MopaMoro Local Government Area for the task.
