*Inaugurates Special Standing C’ttee on Public Accounts

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Aliyu Umar Yusuf has charged members of the Assembly to ensure they work closely with the Executive Arm of Government to ensure the resources of the state work for its citizens.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed and made available to pressmen.
According to the statement, the speaker made the address while inaugurating the House Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
The Speaker enjoined the legislators to ensure a good working relationship with all departments and agencies under the purview of the committee, adding that it was only a hitch free working relationship that would engender growth and development of the state.
Speaking, the chairman of the Committee, Hon Alhassan Zakariya Otokiti clarified that several sections of the constitution empower the Auditor General to audit public accounts and all offices and courts of the state and submit its reports to the House of Assembly.
He said through the report, the Public Accounts Committee performs a type of legislative oversight by conducting investigation on the audited accounts among other responsibilities.
