Kebbi Autocrash Claims 11, Injures 10 Others

No fewer than 11 passengers reportedly lost their lives in a fatal motor accident which occurred in the early hours of Friday in Sokoto State, New Nigerian Newspapers has learnt.
Ten others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries and undergoing treatment at Shanga General Hospital.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened along Koko- Yauri Road at about 6.00am, when the driver of a Volvo DAF truck, marked KWA 230 SKK lost control.
As learnt, the truck driven by one Alhaji Sule, 49yrs of Gada Local Council of Sokoto, which was loaded with passengers and bags of beans going to Ibadan, Oyo State somersaulted on reaching Giron Masa village.
The Kebbi State Police Command Spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident in a release said the victims were evacuated to the hospital by police operatives attached to Shanga Police Station.
“ON the 3rd November, 2023, at about 0600hrs, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident along Koko_ Yauri road, involving a Volvo DAF truck with registration number KWA 230 SKK, driven by one Alhaji Sule ‘m’ aged 40yrs of Gada LGA of Sokoto State. 
“The truck which was loaded with passengers and bags of beans was coming from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State. On reaching Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA, the driver of the truck lost control. As a result, it somersaulted and Twenty One (21) passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.
“On receipt of the report, a team of Policemen from Shanga Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to General hospital,Shanga, for treatment, where a medical Doctor confirmed Eleven (11) dead, while the remaining victims are responding to treatment”.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, psc, mnips has prayed for the souls of the departed to have an eternal rest.
He also prayed that may their immediate families and friends have the courage to bear the irreparable loss.
The CP also called on the NURTW, NARTO and other road users to always ensure they emplace adequate safety measures in their vehicles and be conscious, with a view to preventing future reoccurrence.
He equally advised them to observe speed limit, avoid overloading, recklessness and be more careful while driving.
