As  part of its efforts to ensure that vulnerable children in the society  have a sense  of belonging, the  Kaduna State chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria  (YSFON) recently in conjunction with a non governmental organization  TEWORH Foundation   organized  a football match for them,  aimed at discovering talented footballers.

The three-day even which came to a close with the final match played between Gidan Marayu Orphans and Narawi Street Boys, saw the later carry the day with a 4-1 victory.

Apart from this, games were also organized at AL Marayu SSC and for the deaf in a competition where everybody agreed that everyone was a winner.

Speaking at the end of the tournament, chairman of TEWORH Foundation,  Suraj Abdulwahab, said they  decided to organize the championship in order to give hope to the less privileged members of the society whom many of them he said are blessed with abundant talents noting that his organization will always partner with YSFON to give them hope.

‘” We put together this tournament in order to show these street and neglected children that they are part of the society. During the course of the competition, we discovered that a lot of them are skillful players who need to be encouraged to excel in sports and we’ll continue to partner with YSFON to ensure that these children are no more neglected.

‘Its unfortunate that these children who found themselves where they’re today because of no fault of theirs are not reckoned with in the society and we believe they should be encouraged to develop their potentials through sports which is not only capable of taking them off the street  but also offer them hope as well as  make them meaningful members of the society in future”, he explained.

He announced that a date will be set aside for presentation of trophies and medals to the participants even as he commended members of the public for coming out to cheer the boys.
