Kaduna SEMA Trains Staff On Disaster Management

The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) on Tuesday embarked on training of its staff to ensure proper disaster management across the state.

Muhammed Mukaddas, Executive Secretary, KADSEMA spoke at the in -house training geared towards ensuring preparedness and planning strategies in the management of disaster in the state.

According to Mukaddas, disaster management is everybody’s business hence the need to carry every staff along; and strengthen their capacity to be confident in carrying their responsibilities as professionals.

“The idea is to boost the staffing capacity to do more and elevate our current level of expertise as we aspire to be a more professional outfit,” he said.

The Executive Secretary, who was also the resource person, said the agency would be geared towards being proactive in tackling hazards before they happened.

He urged the participants to apply lessons learnt during the training, in the discharge of their respective duties.

Mukaddas also paid a courtesy visit to Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KASUPDA).

He said the purpose of the visit was to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in order to mitigate foreseeable flood disaster due to presence of structures built on waterways in flood prone areas.

Receiving KADSEMA’s delegation at his office, Ismail Dikko, Director General of KASUPDA, thanked the visitor for making the agency his first point of call.

Dikko said that SEMA had been a key partner in driving the Urban Renewal Project in the state.

He affirmed that structures and careless dumping of refuse in drainages were causative factors for flooding in parts of the state.

Dikko expressed commitment to collaborate with SEMA to ensure lives and properties were saved
