Hunter Remanded In Zaria Over Alleged Attempt To Kill Neighbor’s Son

The Police in Kaduna State has arraigned one Abdulmutallib Tukur (aka Tsalle) before a Magistrate Court IV, Chediya GRA Zaria over alleged attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous body hurt to one Surajo Abdullahi,  resident of Tashar Zomo in Giwa Local Government Area.

At the resumef hearing of the case on Tuesday, the prosecutor, Inspector. Mannir-Nasir Dayi told the court that the case had been slated for further mention and applied for an amendment of the charges against the suspect.

He said there was a development from Divisional Police Headquarters, Giwa who amended the First Information Report (FIR) with additional charges against the defendant.

“Now the defendant is charged with causing grievous hurt and attempt to culpable homicide punishable under sections 216 and 189 of Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017,’’ he said.   

The presiding Magistrate, Ms. Dorcas Kitchener granted the application for the amendment of the charges and ordered the defendant to be remanded at Zaria correctional centre.

She also adjourned the matter until July 27 for cognizance and waiting the legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice.

According to the earlier FIR prior to the amendment of the charges, the defendant was accused of causing grievous hurt on Surajo Abdullahi  who is 18 years old.

The incidence  was said to have occured sometime in April,  when the victim was coming back with his cattle, the defendant’s dog made an attempt to bite him and the victim resisted the attempt by raising his stick.

The dog made further attempts to bite him (the victim) again, thereafter the victim used his stick to hit the dog on one of its legs.

Later, the defendant met the victim in his room at his father’s house and attacked him with a machete on the head, his buttocks and subsequently removed one of the victim’s toes.

According to the earlier FIR, the offence contravenes section 216 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017.
