Humanitarian Affairs Minister Assures Police, Other Security Agencies Of Continuous Support

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has on Thursday, promised security agencies in the North East region of adequate support and continuous interventions in order to make them more effective and function, especially, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)  and the NIgerian Army (NA).

She also assured all the security stakeholders and partners of continuous support and encouragement in the discharge of constitutional responsibilities in providing security to lives and property of the citizenry in the North East region, who were devastated by the 13-year insurgency.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo at the handing over of office furnitures, equipment and fittings  to the Nigeria Police Force Borno State Command, held at the premises of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Headquarters, Maiduguri, she further noted that the ministry in collaboration with the NEDC has been supporting many sectors of the society in the region as part of the post insurgency rebuilding and development plans and mandate of the commission.

According to her, the support and interventions are enormous and the ministry will not hesitate on its mandate to ensure adequate provision of security and restoration of peace in the region, especially, Borno State, the epicenter  of the insurgency.

The Minister also pledged to meet with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to discuss extensively on areas of need of the NPF to effectively operate, save and protect the  lives and property of the people, while appreciating the cordial working relationship existing between the NPF,  NEDC and the ministry.

Earlier, the Managing Director if the NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Zanna Ibrahim said the commission has rebuilt   Garkida Police Station and barracks, which were destroyed by the Boko Haram fighters, now ready for commissioning, while Konduga and Bama Police stations and barracks are under consideration for total overhaul and rebuild.

He also stressed that the commission has a string believe in its security mandate to provide interventions and other support to  security agencies for the purpose of people’s safety or security and peace in the society. 

In his remarks, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baba Usman Alkali  appreciated the donation made to the NPF by the NEDC and assured of continuous partnership with the NEDC and ministry as well as other security stakeholders in the effective provision of security to the people. 

He also requested for additional support and intervention by the NEDC to the NPF, while appreciating the donations made to the police.

The IGP requested for more support and interventions in operational vehicles, computers, communication gadgets, air conditioners, walkie talkies, etc,  while assuring of proper utilization of the equipment, furniture and fittings.
