*Governor reads riot act

At least five persons have been confirmed killed gruesomely within last month (January) in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital by unknown gunmen.

The last which occurred on Wednesday, where a police officer, Inspector Osang was murdered at his residence, has made residents to become apprehensive of who may be the next target.

Osang it was learnt, was serving at C Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Uyo before the tragic incident.

Although, facts surrounding death of Inspector Osang, was still in mystery as at when this report was filed,  a source who spoke under anonymity, said, the incident occured at about 8:30 pm.

According to the source, the assailants which numbered over 10 stormed the residence of their victim located on a lane linking Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, in Uyo metropolis to reign havoc; shooting while residents and passerbyers scampered for safety.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko MacDon confirmed the incident saying, the Command has received the news of the murder of the police personnel describing it as very unfortunate.

According to him, “We have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation.

“Already, an investigation is ongoing and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements.

“Again, we are not deterred and we are committed to ensuring that, criminal minded persons will account for their actions” MacDon, a Police Superintendent said

When our reporter visited the area yesterday morning, people were seen in clusters, discussing the unfortunate incident while fear of unknown was feasible.

It would be recalled that the latest killing is the fifth of such incidencts in January, just as it was rumoured that another person was killed Tuesday night and body dumped around Ikot Oku Junction along the outskirts of Uyo.

The two incidents occurred after a young lady, was also murdered penultimate Sunday night and the dismembered body tucked in a Ghana-Must-Go bag, dumped by the roadside at Nwaniba Road, Uyo

Similarly, a woman was reportedly killed at the Banking Layout of Sir Udo Udoma Avenue, two weeks ago. 

Earlier, one Samuel Monday Toby, a revenue collector for Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state was killed at his residence. 

Meanwhile, the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno has read riot act to criminals in the state, warning that, no criminal should test the resolve of his administration on security matters and go free.

Eno, said at a Gala-Night organised by the state government for Service Commanders who have been transferred from the state, and the newly promoted Military Generals of the state origin.

Governor Eno stated, “if criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a place for them to hibernate, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those ones living among us…we will come after you and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you”.
