A group, Good Governance Monitoring Initiative has called on the Federal Government to reverse the handover of Ahmadu Bello Stadium to Kaduna State Government for the interest of sports in the country.

The National Coordinator, Moshood Kasheem made the call in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

He lamented that handing over one of the legacies of late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardaunan of Sokoto whom the younger generation are benefiting immensely  to the state government would be a great set back to sports industries in the country.

The National Coordinator, Moshood Kasheem maintained that each state has its stadium under its care and handing over the national stadium to the states  would seriously affect the sporting activities in the state.

He advised that Kaduna State Government to develop its township stadium and other stadia at the zones which are abandoned for a very long time  without  plans to develop them.

“Kaduna State Government did not give sports priority at all.  Kaduna United has been leased to consultant with poor performance in league table. We are all aware that the Kaduna State Government was denied hosting National Sports Festival”.

The National Coordinator warned the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to utilize the approved budget to fix all the federal government’s stadia to the world standard for the development of sports in the country.
