The Mada Development Association (MDA) has condemned the attack on Tattara Mada Community in the Kokona LGA of Nasarawa State and called on the government and other relevant authorities to as a matter of urgency, create camp for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, M.K Pius, after an on-the-spot visit to the community, the association also called for the deployment of more security operatives to ensure security of lives and properties in the area.

Pius revealed that over 86 houses were burnt down during the two-day-long siege on the community by what he described as heavily armed fulani herders.

The incident which also claimed lives of the locals according to him was as a result of misunderstanding between two teenage children.

Other property destroyed include vehicles, motorcycles and food items worth millions of naira.

“As it is done everywhere, we urgently request that all necessary provisions be made by the government to assuage the damage done on the hard earned wealth of the people.

“Provision of basic relief materials to the homeless and desolate persons affected by the crisis.

“Government should use all necessary mechanism to resolve the crisis between the two parties towards finding a lasting solution to the mayhem.

“We equally call upon all our prominent sons and daughters to extend hands of fellowship to alleviate this people from perpetual suffering as a result of the crisis,” the statement reads further.

Meanwhile, the two parties had on Tuesday, signed a peace accord in Garaku in a ceremony presided over by the council Chairman, Hon. Awalu Adamu.

The event also had in attendance representatives of the country’s security agencies barely a week after the unfortunate incident.

Suspected Fulani herders had on Sunday April 16, invaded the community in what appeared to be a reprisal attack.
