Governor Inuwa Yahaya Honours Gombe’s Hajara, Winner Of International Qur’anic Recitation Competition In Jordan

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON, has honoured Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi, an illustrious daughter of Gombe State who emerged the overall winner at an International Female Quranic Recitation Competition held recently in the Kingdom of Jordan.

Hajara, from Abubakar Siddiq Islamiyya and 200 Level Botany Student at the Gombe State University represented Nigeria and won first position beating other contestants from 39 countries in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid category at the 18th Edition of the Hashemite Jordan International Qur’anic Competition for Female.

Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, made available yesterday, during a ceremony hosted on Thursday March 7 at the Government House to honour the winner, Governor Inuwa Yahaya presented a 5 million Naira gift to Hajara Dan’azumi, offered a full scholarship package to cover her education from her current level through to the Ph.D.

The governor further donated five million Naira to Abubakar Siddiq Islamiyya, the Qur’anic school that played a vital role in nurturing Hajara, to improve its operations and enhance the effectiveness of students’ training.

To compliment Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s generosity, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON)  granted a Hajj Seat to Hajara for the 2024 pilgrimage in recognition of her achievements.

Additionally, Governor Inuwa awarded two million Naira to Shuaibu Muhammad Nazir of JIBWIS Gombe, who won first position in the 40 Juzu’i category at the 2024 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition.

While reaffirming his administration’s commitment to enhancing the provision of high-quality education to the people of Gombe State in both formal and non-formal education systems,  Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed immense pride in the achievements of Hajara Ibrahim and Shu’aibu Nazir, describing their triumph as a remarkable accomplishment that brings honor to Gombe State and elevates its reputation even on the global stage which is worthy of grand celebration.

“I am incredibly proud to welcome Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi and Shu’aibu Muhammad Nazir, both champions of Qur’anic Competitions, with one winning at global stage and the other nationally. These illustrations daughter and son have brought great honour to Gombe State, elevating our reputation, particularly Hajara Ibrahim’s victory at global scale. Their achievements are truly deserving of celebration and recognition. By honouring them, we aim to inspire others and ensure Gombe continues to produce individuals of their caliber”, the Governor said.

“Today, I am delighted to present Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi with a 5 million naira gift and a scholarship covering her education up to the Ph.D level. Similarly, I am pleased to offer Shu’aibu Muhammad Nazir a gift of 2 million naira”, he added.

In his remarks, Prof. Tahir Inuwa, who spoke on behalf of the management of Abubakar Siddiq Islamiyya and Hajara Ibrahim’s family, conveyed their appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the honour bestowed upon them. 

He described the Governor as a staunch supporter of both Qur’anic and formal education in Gombe State, praying for Allah’s continued guidance for him in leading the state towards greater progress and prosperity.

The winners, Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi and Shu’aibu Muhammad Nazir, both expressed their gratitude to the Governor for the gesture, pledging to remain exemplary ambassadors of Gombe State.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Abubakar Muhammad Luggerewo, the Chief Judge of Gombe State, the Grand Khadi, SSG, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries , traditional rulers and other top government functionaries.
