Gov Makinde Has Ended Era Of Arrears Of Promotion, Stagnation In Oyo State –  Head of Service

The Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni has hinted that the present administration in the state would end mythical era’s of stagnation in career progressions and arrears of promotion.

Mrs Oni dropped this hint in Ibadan during a one day Sensitization Programme organized on Conduct of Year 2022 Promotion Exercise for Schedule Officers in all Ministries, Departments and  Agencies, organized by the State Civil Service Commission at Simon Adebo Staff Development  Center, Secretariat.

She stressed that Governor Seyi Makinde has always displayed his unrelenting affection, support to Civil and Public Servants, since the inception of his administration by clearing inherited arrears of promotion from 2017 to 2019 and the 2020 and 2021 promotions which had since been concluded. 

Reiterating that with the approval of the 2022 promotion exercise, workers in the state, would no longer have courses to wait endlessly but henceforth, it would be as at when due, Mrs Oni tasked the Schedule Officers across the MDA’s to understand the significance of an error free implementation process, whether minor, major, overtly or covertly as this, according to  her, can  have  far- reaching effects on the affected workers.

” It is imperative for you to approach this exercise with utmost care, precision and adherence to the established guidelines in the personnel estimates, extant Public Service Rules and relevant Circulars”, she said.

Executive Chairman, Oyo state Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Aderibigbe Abiodun,  commended Governor Makinde saying “Compassionate God sent man” for always putting smiles on the faces of every personnel, especially, by graciously giving approval for the conduct of the 2021 and 2022 promotions in quick succession, despite dwindling economic resources available to the State. 

Alhaji Aderibigbe  recalled that Gov Makinde had earlier issued letters of promotion for 2017-2020, including the 2019-2020 concessionary promotion for Officers who could not be promoted before,and due to inadequate vacancies declared by the various Ministries,  Departments and Agencies. 

He stressed that the Civil Service Commission, with the approval of the Executive Governor recently released letters of conversion to about Seven Hundred Civil/Public workers to strengthen their career progressions, adding that the Commission looked forward to having an error free promotion reports from Ministries, Departments and Agencies. 

Warning Schedule Officers against delay in making available adequate vacancy provisions for eligible officers in the book of  Estimates to the Commission, he tasked workers in the state to vehemently support the present administration as “to whom much is given,  much is expected “

The Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mrs Fausat Ayobami Oluokun, described the exercise as timely, and a proactive measure to forestall occurrence of errors in the implementation of the 2022 promotion,  to ensure timely release of letters to eligible workers in the state. 

Mrs Oluokum affirmed that since promotion played a significant role in work satisfaction, as it is connected to career growth, new title, changes in job responsibilities, leadership roles and pay increase. 

She therefore, charged Schedule Officers to pay utmost attention, care and be painstaking in handling the assignments.
