Yobe State Government, has commenced the expansion and upgrading of tertiary healthcare institutions in Damaturu the state capital to provide medical needs of patients as well as accommodate medical students of state university and other healthcare institutions during clinical practice.
The Chief Medical Director of the Damaturu Specialist Hospital, Doctor Usman Abba Geidam disclosed this at the commissioning of the newly expanded and upgraded radiology department of the hospital in Damaturu.
The Emir of Damaturu, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn El-Kanemi who was the special guest of honour and the Radiology Department named after him, applauded the CMD and his team for working tirelessly to ensure they provide better service delivery to all residents.
The Radiology Department consists of a counselling unit, scanning and X-Ray Centres As well as doctors consulting room.
In a related development, the Chief Medical Director of the specialist hospital also distributed healthcare consumables ranging from orthopedic beds, mattresses, blood Pressure and autoclave machines, thermometers, ward coats, among others to the 21 units of the hospital.
“There is a huge gap including orthopedic mattresses, ceiling fans and other equipment and we have distributed such across the 21 units of the hospital. With this distribution, the cycle of consumables deficiency is now completed, we will concentrate on service delivery” he said.
The chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Abubakar Kawu Mala told the gathering, the consumables have been lacking for a very long period of time but the six months of the CMD has changed the game. Out of the meagre Internally Generated Revenue, the hospital was able to purchase the items as support to the donations made by Non-Governmental Organisations.
The special guest of honour at the distribution and the Ambassador of the Hospital, Mohammed Kukuwa believed with the recent development will mitigate the challenge faced in the past.
