Gombe Women Commissioner Bags Traditional Title of Azurfan Dukul

Gombe State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Muhammad Iganus, has been conferred with a traditional  tittle of “Azurfa of Dukul”, in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State, by the district head of Dukul, Abdulkadir Muhammad.

Before she was appointed  Azurfan Dukul, Asma’u had many titles, which include, Gimbiyar Kalaku, Uwar Soron Shongom, Jinkan Kaltungo and Tauraruwar Sansani.

In his remarks during a thank you visit to the palace, the district head said he gave her the title based on her commitment in protecting the right of children and women, saying she is the only Lady in the state assembly that put have pressure on governor on the child right act bill that was signed into law.

Our correspondent recalls that the last time someone in the district was conferred with such title was in 1976.

He explained that the title was in recognition of the commissioner’s passion and commitment to assisting girl-child and protecting them from abuse.

In his address, the Council Chairman of Kwami, Ibrahim Buba, Makaman Dukul, appreciated the royal father for honouring the commissioner from Shongom Local Government Area of the state.

He enjoined her to associate very well with the community because she knows one of the community members.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the family, the Elder brother to Hon Commissioner, who is the Village Head of Kalaku and Waziri of Shongom,   Nappi Muhamamd, said he lacked words to appreciate  the district head for appointing his sister as Azurfan Dukul.

In her response,  Hon Asma’u Iganus commended the traditional ruler for appointing her based on  contributions to girl-child protection.

She said as the only female legislature and chairperson House Committee on Women Affairs, she was able to lobby for the signing of the child-right bill into law. 

Iganus, appreciated the king makers of the palace and the support of her staff in the ministry.
