The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has flagged off 2022 Ember Months Campaign rally which is an annual ritual that brings together all stakeholders involved in road safety and traffic management in Nigeria, with a view to raising awareness on the critical nature of the ember months and also share strategies and programmes towards ensuring that the season is crash free.

According to the State Sector Commander, Uche Chukwurah, the FRSC management team under the leadership of the Ag. Corps Marshal, DCM Dauda A Biu, chose the theme of this year’s campaign as “AVOID SPEEDING, OVERLOADING AND UNSAFE TYRES TO ARRIVE ALIVE”.

He stated that the theme is indeed apt: as it brings to the fore, some major causes of Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in Nigeria today.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone who has taken time out of their busy schedules to be here with us. Today, the FRSC Ebonyi Sector Command officially kick starts activities for the 2022 ember months campaign.

“As we all know, the ember months flag-off rally is an annual ritual that brings together all stakeholders involved in road safety and traffic management in Nigeria, with a view to raising awareness on the critical nature of the ember months and also sharing  strategies and programmes towards ensuring that the season is crash free.

“The FRSC management team under the leadership of the Ag. Corps Marshal,DCM Dauda A Biu, chose the theme of this year’s campaign as “AVOID SPEEDING, OVERLOADING AND UNSAFE TYRES TO OverARRIVE ALIVE”. This theme is indeed apt: as it brings to the fore some major causes of Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in Nigeria today.

“Speeding, overloading and the use of unsafe (substandard) tyres, have continued to be responsible for a large number of RTCs. These factors also increase the severity of crashes when they occur. The FRSC as lead agency in traffic management in Nigeria, continues to adopt the proactive approach of enlightenment and education of the motoring public to raise adequate awareness on the causes of RTCs with a view to reducing the carnage on Nigerian roads,” he said.

He further explained that  FRSC Ebonyi Sector Command has mobilized over one thousand and twenty-three (1,023) personnel (Regular and Special Marshals) in readiness for the ember months.

“The Command will also deploy over ten (10) Patrol vehicles, one (1) Ambulance and one (1) Power bike to guarantee safe travels for all road users within our State during this period, adding that Patrol Operations will be sustained, while Mobile Courts will be fully operational for quick dispensation of justice to traffic violators, while robust public enlightenment and education will also be sustained at markets, schools, motor parks, worship places and through various mass media,” he revealed.

The sector commander appreciated all  stakeholders in Ebonyi State, who have continued to provide the needed support towards helping them to achieve their mandate.

“I also thank the Government and good people of Ebonyi State for being our ever-ready partners in progress.

“Once again,I thank you all for gracing this event with your esteemed presence, and pray that all activities planned will achieve the desired results and ensure that the ember-months 2022 will be Crash Free,” he concluded.
