Fresh agitation for Biafra republic is senseless – Agoro
By; Bayo Akamo, Ibadan.
Former Presidential candidate of the National Action Council, (NAC) Dr Olapade Agoro today said the on-going agitation for Biafra republic by some Igbo youths is senseless.
Dr Agoro in a chat with journalists in Ibadan declared that as at present, there was no basis for such agitation if the Igbo youths are really sincere with their selves as well as committed to the peace and stability of the country, saying, “they are on their own rampaging to self destruction”.
The former Presidential candidate pointed out that it was glaring that “the Igbos are not only visible in the nation’s socio-economic developmental events, but just too good leaders in firm control of entire business climates of Nigeria particularly Lagos, the nation’s business nerve center and as well sprawling all over Abuja, Kaduna, Ibadan, Kano, Ilesa, Ile-Ife et al like bush fire in the dry season.
“It therefore makes one wonders aloud in bewilderment to find some youthful pranksters mad mimicking the last ode of Biafra, dead and buried since 1970. Incidentally Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu the great and colourful character that attempted seceding Biafra as a nation out of Nigeria (1967-1970) sooner than expected like a great leader retraced his way back, to end up an hero the type found only among the greats of the world,” he said.
Dr Agoro stressed that  Chief Ojukwu’s widow “Bianca at a time not too long ago to be soon forgotten meritoriously served as  Nigerian Ambassador to an European country”, adding that “it therefore brings to fore the need to ask the salient question the wise would be tempted to ask why some Igbo rabble rouser youths who knew nothing about the hell on earth we the elderly now in age group 60 and above  went through between 1967-1970 hiding in damn hot caves and holes during the Nigeria- Biafra war”.
He then lauded the Chairmen forum of seven Igbo speaking states, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo –cultural organization comprising highly respected Igbo elders for their “nerve soothing intervention” by distancing themselves from the activities of “dead Biafra state agitating”.
“Although agitation for human serving noble cause and particularly human rights cause pleading and pursuing is an opium in the life of a nation guided by rule of laws, however this cannot be compared to anything worth touching by those now engineering madness and attempting to uselessly put flesh on dry bones that will at any rate end up in gamesmanship of running mad in the circle of low mentality” he added.
