Foundation Trains Gombe Girls On Different  Crafts

A charity organisation in Gombe State known as ‘Zakah and Waqf Foundation, has commenced training of 50 selected girls in the state on different crafts.

The girls drawn from parts of the state, would be taught crafts of tailoring, bead making and shoe making by the foundation.

According to the chairman of the foundation, Dr Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido, the training was under the ‘Girls Child Empowerment Programme launched by the organisation in order to train girls to get occupations for self reliance.

“In Gombe, December 15, 2023, marks a significant initiative under our women’s empowerment. This second edition of the program is designed to uplift young girls through skill development, fostering self-reliance and economic independence.

“The programme features three distinct categories, tailoring, bead making and shoe making, with 20, 15, and 15 participants respectively.

Dr Lamido who was represented by the secretary media of the foundation Isma’il Ibrahim said This diverse approach aims to cater for varied interests and skills, ensuring a comprehensive empowerment experience for the 50 participating girls.”, he noted.

He added that the curriculum spans a duration of one month allowing for an immersive and thorough learning experience. 

The chairman further stated that the focus on girls under 20 years reflects a commitment to nurturing skills early in life, setting the foundation for future opportunities and financial autonomy.
