In its efforts to mitigate the effect of perennial flooding, the Maigatari Local Government Council in Jigawa State has awarded a N15 million contract for the construction of drainages in the council headquarters, among it’s  three major  towns of the council.

The action is in compliance with the directives of the state’s governor, Badaru Abubakar to the 27 local government chairmen to put immediate remedial measures in place to avert further loss of lives and property.

The Information Officer in charge of the council, Sulaiman Daudu, made this known during a telephone interview with our correspondent on the scourge of flood which ravaged Maigatari Council  as a result of heavy downpour.

Daudu quoted the council chairman, Uzairu Nadabo, as saying that the gesture is aimed at curtailing flood threatening communities in the area.

He explained that the chairman said the project would be executed at Maigatari Arewa, in Maigatari town, Tsinke, Zazzabau and Malam Aba villages.

The officer added that 18 villages were affected by flooding in the area, which resulted in the destruction of houses and property.

According to him, Nadabo, who sympathised with the affected communities, has directed for the compilation of a comprehensive list  of victims of the disaster for submission to State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
