Family Must Take Its Place In Training Children To Avert Insecurity, GPFN Opines

For the insecurity challenges confronting the country to be curtailed, the family must takes its proper place to instill discipline in its members.

Speaking in Kaduna on Thursday on “Empowering Families for Community Peace Advocacy”, the Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, believes that the family has a greater role to play towards ensuring the restoration of morals among members of the family for peaceful coexistence in parts of the country.

According to him, “The women assembled here are from different beliefs, mainly to discuss ways of ensuring harmonious relationship in parts of the country because as mothers, they have a greater role to play towards the sustenance of orderliness in the society towards proper upbringing of the children.”

He called on women to ensure that they instill discipline in the lives of theirs children, lamenting that the innocent ones have being used to carry out all forms of atrocities leading to loss of lives and destruction of valuable properties in the country.

Hayab further noted that all those involved in kidnapping, banditry, animals rustling, child trafficking and other vices are from the family, saying that the mothers have to truly stand their ground to ensure that their children are not used to cause havoc in the society through proper training of children.

Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf, a professor of criminology and gender studies, Kaduna State University, Kaduna, challenged women in the state not to allow their children participate in any social vices, saying that they have the power to ensure the upbringing of their children in a moral way.

Dr Lydia Umar, Executive Director, Gender Awareness Trust (GAT), while speaking on, “The role of women as peace advocates and promoting understanding across cultural, ethnic, and religious divides within families and communities”, enjoined women to come together in order to ensure they contribute by teaching their children proper upbringing and avoid being used to cause insecurity in the country.

Hajiya Asmau Makarfi, the wife of the former governor of Kaduna state, Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, who spoke on the topic, “Empowering families for community peace advocacy”, said that it is really disturbing that insecurity has become the order of the day and called on women to play their roles as mothers of the family to contribute to the restoration of harmonious relationship in the country.

She urged the mothers to take their position as mothers to join hands towards ensure their children are given the best training so that they would not be used to cause the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

She stressed the need for both men and women to come together to build a better family for the future of the country.
