The concern surrounding our President’s actions has transformed him into a national security topic of utmost importance, especially when his decisions seem to pit the very region that supported him against their own people, all in the pursuit of marching on Niger. Equally worrisome is the potential of his actions to sow discord within the armed forces – an entity he commands – and which comprises individuals of both Islam and Christianity.

It is worth considering the implications of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, led by the President and his vice, despite the President having a Christian spouse. This raises questions about his comfort level with having a Christian in a leadership role. Given the contentious landscape of Nigeria’s official religions, one must acknowledge that adherents of both Islam and Christianity, including those in the armed forces, might feel disregarded if leadership choices fail to reflect a balanced representation of these two pivotal religions.

The imperative here is to maintain a harmonious equilibrium, acknowledging the sensitivities and interests of both official religions in Nigeria, even within the Armed Forces. This delicate balance is crucial when discussing matters of leadership options and decisions, particularly when they involve our country’s national security.

This status quo does not have to persist; room for improvement exists. Deliberate consideration and thoughtful decision-making are essential to ensure that leadership choices not only acknowledge the diversity within our society but also respect the constitutional rights and beliefs of every citizen.

This   reflections  are offered in the hopes that our country’s leadership will recognize the importance of embracing a united, balanced, and inclusive approach to matters of national significance. Only through such a mindset can we navigate the complex interplay of religion, politics, and governance, ensuring a stable and prosperous Nigeria for all.
