Ebonyi Govt Embarks on Beautification Of Capital City

*Approves Close to 100 Building Plans and Bus stops

Ebonyi State Government has embarked on beautification  of Abakaliki, the state capital with various aesthetic designs and plans which will revamp  socioeconomic activities across the state. 

The Commissioner for Capital City Development and Urban planning, Hon. Inyima Elechi Sunday disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, stating that the core duty of the Ministry of Capital City is to ensure that everything about physical control in the capital city falls in line with the regulations and laws guiding building development, which they  have been doing since they came on board.

According to him, close to 100 building plans have received approval as well as the approval for the construction of bus stops, traffic bus shelters and traffic lights in all the strategic places in Abakaliki.

He also urged intending landlords to always adhere strictly to the building plans approved by the ministry as failure to do so will not be tolerated.

The commissioner further noted that since the past administration has transformed  the city by bringing up the roads and lights; they are going to  upgrade the  aesthetic nature of the city to make life good and meaningful for people, adding  that their goal is  to make Abakaliki become a smart city,  where every facility and sectors of government is working effectively .

`The core duty is to ensure that everything about physical control in the capital city falls in line with the regulations and any law guiding building development, and that we have been doing since we came on board. A lot of building plans have been brought here, up to 140 and are in  process now. The ones we have approved are between 89 to 100. So many fencing permits which were brought before us shall receive approval after inspection.

“I want people to abide by the drawings they gave to us and if they fail to abide, you will see our tax force coming to ensure that the laid down procedures are followed. 

“However, for the fact that we want to enlarge our scope in the area of beautification of the city, we have submitted proposal to the governor, some of them, he has approved. 

“We submitted proposals on building of bus stops and construction of bus shelters. He has approved the construction of bus shelters and has passed through procurement process and will be awarded. When awarded, it is going to be pre fabricated construction. The ministry is doing something great.

“Since the past administration has opened up the city by bringing up the roads and lights; we are going to bring up aesthetics to make life good and meaningful for people living here in the city. We want to see Abakaliki become a smart city because it is a city where every facility and sector of government is working effectively. There  will be clean environment, traffic should be controlled, and water shall be retriculated across the state.

“We have received approval to put traffic lights back in all the junctions of the city in Abakaliki,” he informed.

Hon. Inyima also played host to the House of Assembly Committee on Capital City, who visited the ministry as part of their oversight function.
