Ebonyi Governor–Elect, 17 Out 24 House Members Receive Certificates Of Return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has issued Certificates of Return to the Ebonyi State Governor–Elect and 17 House of Assembly members out of 24 members while five were declared inconclusive; two have minor unresolved issues.

While presenting the Certificates of Return to the Governor–Elect and House of Assembly members at INEC office, Abakaliki, the  national commissioner supervising Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi, Mr. Kenneth Ukewu, urged the newly elected candidates to be good ambassadors of their people and do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed on them, saying that INEC has done its best by conducting credible election in the state.

Also, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Onyekachi Paulin Ugochi said, “The Certificate of Return issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is an evidence and  authority that shows that one has been duly elected in an election conducted by the commission. Hence, to fulfill the Constitutional requirements in the electoral process.

 “As you are aware, there are supposed to be 24 members-elect to be issued with Certificates of Return today, but only 17 members-elect will receive their certificates, leaving five out. The five are the state constituencies where elections were declared inconclusive, while two have minor issues.

“You may recall that Senators-elect and members–elect of the Federal House of Representatives, have been issued with Certificates of Return about two weeks ago.”

According to her,  the three senators and five members-elect of House of Representatives from Ebonyi State were among those that have collected their Certificates of Return.

However, Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency election was declared inconclusive in the 25th February, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

“I am pleased to inform you that the commission has fixed the conduct of supplementary elections into the constituencies where elections were declared inconclusive for Saturday April 15,  2023,” INEC informed.
