Easter Celebration: FRSC Deploys 606 Personnel In Akwa Ibom

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom State Command has said that 606 Personnel including Special Marshals, have been deployed strategically to man major routes across the state ahead of the Easter Season Celebration, and to ensure free flow of traffic within and out of the state.

To enable seamless and effective coverage of all critical traffic corridors and areas in the state, 11 Patrol Vehicles and 2 Ambulances are also deployed, while adequate arrangement is being made for tow trucks to clear any obstruction during the period.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Corps Commander Matthew Olonisaye disclosed this in a statement yesterday, ahead of the celebration where the federal government has declared Friday, 7th and Monday 10th April as public holidays.

Olonisaye in the statement, also cautioned motorists against reckless driving while other road users are advised to tread with caution as only the living celebrates!To minimize road carnages.

“Drivers and other road users are advised to tread with caution as only the living celebrates!To minimize road carnages, we must, as a matter of safety, avoid any display or demonstration of recklessness; Speeding, Dangerous and Wrongful Overtaking, Driving against Traffic, Overloading with goods and passengers for haulage trucks and passengers-carrying vehicles amongst others, he emphasized.

“It is important that drivers imbibe the habit of being patient when driving in unfamiliar or on bad roads. They are to obey all traffic signs, signals and markings communicating certain road characteristics and features, obey applicable speed limits or apply common sense speed limits at best.

“Remember! Life has neither duplicate nor, spare parts. So, we must consciously strive to protect and safeguard our lives, especially while using or sharing the roads with others, realizing that our family members, friends and well-wishers eagerly wait to receive and welcome us back home alive,” The Sector Commander added.

He called on the general public to remain active by observing traffic rules and regulations and promptly report any road incidence and other emergencies to the FRSC Toll-free line – 122.

Olonisaye however gave a cheering news, saying, “The comparative analysis of ROAD TRAFFIC CRASHES in Akwa IBOM state;1st qtr 2022 and 1st qtr 2023 revealed that there is decrease in number of people injured or killed in 2023 which is due to the command’s aggressive public enlightenment, strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations on the highways.”
