The Network of Yobe Civil Society Organizations (NYCSO) has expressed concern over the persistent low Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) performance of the Government of Yobe State, asking Governor Mai Mala Buni to appoint a substantive chairman for the State Internal Revenue Service in accordance with the provisions of the law to ensure stable leadership that will drive effective revenue generation initiatives.

The Executive Chairman of the Network, Baba Shehu who disclosed this in Damaturu while addressing journalists, also sought for an Executive Order to implement the Revenue Law effectively by the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service.

“We want the government to grant the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service an Executive Order to implement the Revenue Law effectively, thereby enhancing the collection and remittance of all revenues in line with the provisions of the State Revenue Law 2021 (as amended).

“Direct all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to be intentional about improving revenue generation. Cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service is also essential for the successful discharge of its statutory mandate, as provided by the law”.

The Executive Director also noted  commendable efforts by the administration of Mai Mala Buni to enact the laws aimed at prudent resource management and fiscal stability however sought for immediate implementation.

“NYCSO wants the state government to take immediate action on the key issues of government to sincerely implement the recommendations of the State Fiscal Responsibility reports of the previous years and also judiciously address all recommendations raised in the State Auditor General’s Reports for the previous years” the statement reads in part.

The network further blamed the inability of the state to appoint the Substantive Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Internal Revenue as the major setback to the internally generated revenue of the state.
